THE New Forest Parenting Package is designed for parents of children with symptoms of ADHD and its organisers are now looking for people wishing to train as practitioners to deliver the programme.
Three research studies have already showed positive outcomes for children whose parents have taken part in the programme.
The programme offers parents an increased understanding of ADHD, an improved parent-child relationship, parenting skills in behaviour management and advice on becoming their child's trainer and support in improving their child's attention and concentration.
In addition the programme supports parents in promoting their children's social skills by encouraging self regulation and expression of feelings.
The programme can be delivered in an eight-week home based programme on a one to one basis, in a group format or by using the self-help manual.
Training for practitioners is delivered over a 3-day training course and costs are available on request. To become accredited in the programme, practitioners will need to audio or video tape at least two families completing the 8-week programme and submit these to the programme developers for supervision where they will be checked for fidelity and integrity.
